The Petition Says, " Missouri Civil Right Iniative" ~~ THINK BEFORE YOU INKSubmitted by mupmusa on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 10:53pm.
THINK BEFORE YOU INK Between now and Saturday you are likely to be approached by people collecting signatures for a so-called "civil rights initiative" to be placed on the November ballot. The petitions use tricky language to mislead voters into thinking they are signing onto something positive in the advancement of civil rights when in fact it will END AFFIRMATIVE ACTION in this state. The petitioners are using questionable tactics to gather signatures. See AP article that came out yesterday (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/MO_AFFIRMATIVE_ACTION_MOOL-?SITE=MOCOD&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT). "Group accused of deception in Missouri ballot drive" The ACLU of Eastern Missouri is a part of the WE CAN Coalition, organized to defeat this initiative. ************************************************* WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW 1) Don't sign these petitions. Tell your friends and family members not to sign. 2) Report signature gatherers. If you see signature gatherers working for the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative over the next few days, report them by calling 1-877-644-0466. (This is a great number to have in your cell phone.) We need to know where they are so as to counter their efforts with voter education. 3) Volunteer your time between now and Saturday. Signatures are being gathered in communities all over the state. They need to turn them in on Sunday. The next few days are crucial. You can be a part of educating voters about this important issue. Over 100 volunteers gave two or more hours last weekend. How about you? On the spot training provided. Sign up by calling 1-877-644-0466. Don't be fooled! Join the fight to keep fairness and equality alive by defending affirmative action. We thank you! Neither the Democratic Party or Muleskinners endorses candidates during primaries or non partisan elections -- nor do they take official positions concerning issues.
