This from Will, the local Obama staffer: Tuesday marks the very last primary contest. To celebrate the end of the primary season, we are asking all Democrats to come together and watch the numbers come in. Invite all your friends and family to join us at the Blue Note on Tuesday (17 N 9th St), June 3rd at 6:00pm. As always, here is the my.barackobama.com link: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4bm7 We at Obama for America are humbled by the hard work all of you have put into this campaign. We were told that Senator Obama would never make it this far. What "they" did not know, is that this movement is about more than our candidate. This movement is about you, is about us. When we were told it was not possible, that we could not even compete, we replied: Yes we can! We have worked hard, and on Tuesday we can watch the results of all this work as the last states conduct their primaries. Hope to see you there! You are Invited to a Special Evening In Support of Bob Pund, Candidate, 25th Legislative District. This fundraising event will be held on: Wednesday, June 25th 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Join us to learn more about Bob's campaign and to support his efforts. Some things you should know about him: • Bob is an optimist and knows we can change things for the better. Missourians deserve a level playing field where everyone has a chance to live the American dream. He will work hard to build a level playing field. • Bob will represent all Missourians, not just special interests. • Bob is a strong advocate of progressive ideals. He will work hard to bring people together from different points of view to create solutions. • Bob understands the power and importance of education. He believes that education is an investment, not something that legislators can cut.

"Standard Operating Procedure" In the latest from Errol Morris (The Fog of War), we see those grinning, thumbs-up American soldiers from the Abu Ghraib photographs explain themselves with a potent sense of what was expected of them from the powers above: to "soften up" prisoners for the real torture to follow. Morris, using a welter of photographs (many of which we haven't seen), constructs a day-to-day sense of how Abu Ghraib descended into a medieval hell. He reveals the institutionalized fear, the pornographic license that ruled a prison where degradation became the blinkered language of American payback. The most chilling thing about the film, however, is how hard it is to completely separate yourself from those guilty U.S. soldiers. "Morris makes a persuasive case that many of the photos don't show us what we think they do, and that some of the episodes depicted were staged specifically to be photographed (and might not otherwise have occurred)" (Andrew O'Hehir, Salon).
